Have you ever sat down to think about how much working costs you? Yes we get a salary but sometimes to have the ‘convenience’ of things, can be pretty costly and reduce our hourly salary.
Here are 7 ideas on how you can increase your income at work without asking for a raise!
1.) Eating lunch in most restaurants can cost you about $8, consider that 5x a week and that will cost you about $40 a week, $160 a month. Brown bagging your lunch can save you a great deal of money. Most brown bag lunches can be fixed for under $3. That will reduce your cost down to $15.00 a week, $60.00 a month. Saving you a $100.00 a month!
2.) Ohh.. those terrible Starbucks/Coffee run. Whether it’s in the morning, afternoon.. Those speciality coffees can cost you on average $4.00 a day. If you do that everyday that’s $20 a week, $80.00 a month! Brewing your own coffee and bringing it to work enhanced with your favorite creamer can cost around $0.50 a day. $2.50 a week, $10.00 a month! Savings you $70.00 a month!
3.) Vending Machine.. Bottled Water or Soda. $2.00 a per bottle and if you’re the type to buy one on each of your breaks. That’s $30 a week, $120.00 a month. Stick to water! Bring a stainless steel or one of those fancy filtered bottles and drink tap water! Saving you a $120.00 a month!
4.) OK Ladies, I know we all want to look pretty, however the cost of beauty can be quite expensive. Getting a pedicure can cost around $30 or higher, if you are heading to the salon every month you may want to consider doing this yourself. Savings $30.00 a month!
5.) Driving to work can sometimes be a bore, and if you’re a music love you may have a subscription to satellite radio. Ditch this subscription to save yourself $30.00 a month!
6.) Looking professional can be expensive not only in the clothes you wear but the cost of getting your clothes cleaned. When buying items make sure you buy clothing that is not dry clean only. Avoid the dry cleaner by washing and ironing items yourself and you can save roughly $25.00 per month.
7.) We spend so much time with our co-workers and it amazes me how we want to continue to hang out with them outside of work. Getting dinner, a drink etc.. If you’re having a get together outside of work at a descent restaurant and you have an appetizer, dinner and a few drinks you can be spending around $50.00 for this meal. Instead why not consider gathering at home, pot luck style and this will save you at least half the cost of eating out and bonus you’ll likely have left overs. Savings $25.00
With cutting out these 7 simple steps, you can save $400.00 a month!! If you work 40 hours a week that’s an automatic $2.50 raise!!
I’m also going to throw this in as well.. Co-workers are one of the best ‘sellers’ companies have. Avoid falling into this trap! You know what I mean.. the trap of new clothes, accessories, gadgets, cars and more… All of these things can be tempting and often times you feel left behind if you don’t jump on the latest and greatest. Depending on what your ‘eye’ craves.. you can increase your savings potential even more by avoiding this temptation.

Very good article with some great money saving tips. I work from home, but I am going to show this to my husband who spends an awful lot of money while on the job eating out and buying snacks. It kills me because we have a stockpile of food here at home thanks to couponing yet he always “forgets” to pack a lunch.
Some great ideas and we do all of these……but I’m not giving up XM Radio, it’s my one luxury.
