The Holidays are a busy time for us, especially since this time of year we are celebrating Birthdays too!
So When American Cancer Society reached out and asked me if I wanted to participate in the Healthier Holiday Table / Celebrate More Birthdays campaign, I quickly agreed.
Many of you don’t know this, but a few days ago we celebrated my daughters 18th birthday! Her birthday is extremely important to me because not only do I remember her birth, I also remember how she was diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic Leukemia on her 3rd birthday. It’s been 15 years and I’m so thankful she beat her disease and we are celebrating more birthdays!
With this time of year you get tons of cookies and sweet treats and it can be overwhelming. If you are looking to take a healthier approach you may want to consider making a Fruit “Cake”!
The ingredients I used were the following fruits:
- Blueberries
- Grapes
- Strawberries
- Cantaloupe
- Honeydew
- Watermelon
Feel free to tweak it to your liking’s. Check out my post Healthier Cake: A Birthday Fruit “Cake”, for a step by step tutorial on how I made this.
Did you know that eating lots of fruits and vegetables can help reduce your cancer risk? The American Cancer Society recommends eating at least 2½ cups of vegetables and fruits each day.
Here are some more innovative ways to add more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains to your day while watching your refined carbohydrates, sugar, and fat intake.
