Gardening in the Desert

One of the best things about living in the Western Region, especially here in Las Vegas, Nevada.  We have the opportunity to have a garden 3 times a year.  Fall gardening happens to be one of the best times of year for gardening in the desert!

  • Tomatoes
  • Carrotts
  • Beets
  • Lettuce
  • Broccolli

Gardening in the desert can be very tricky here in the desert.  Our dirt is extremley hard.  Therefore we use raised garden beds.  However, In order to have a successful garden, you need to ensure you have the right nutrients.  That’s why I like Miracle Grow Potting Mix.  This helps feeds the plants for 6 months which is more than enough time for our fall and winter garden.

I can’t wait until our tomatoes look like these and we are able to harvest our tomatoes.

I especially looking forward to canning them into salsa and sauces!  My mouth is drooling with anticipation.

I love salsa and it’s so easy to make.  Here’s an easy recipe for you to try:

  • 4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, minced
  • salt and pepper to taste

Add all ingredients together, place in fridge for about an hour.  To make it spicer add 1-2 more jalapenos

Oh so yummy and even more rewarding when you grow the items yourself.Advertisement
